It was a joyful experience, visiting St Paul’s and St John’s churches in Tottenham, with the Reverend Alison Phillips. Nestled in the shadow of the sparkling Spurs stadium, it resides in one of London’s most deprived boroughs. However, deprivation is not a word that springs to mind in this community, where the beauty of the service was matched by the warm hospitality and strong sense of caring for each other as well as visitors and strangers that I encountered at the tables in the adjoining hall where lunch was swiftly served after Sunday mass.
